Meet Michele Debuisne – Founder & Teacher
Michele Debuisne has been teaching art to children throughout her career, working with students from Grade 1 through Grade 8 at an international school in Paris. After more than 30 years of teaching, she is still passionate about sharing the joy of art with young artists.
A few years ago, Michele had the idea to create online art clubs for her students, opening them up to children from the French community and beyond. Paris Palette grew from this idea and her desire to share her knowledge, skills, and enthusiasm for art with even more children.
Michele believes children are naturally curious, imaginative, and eager to explore. Art gives them the opportunity to experiment with materials and techniques, discover great artists, and develop both creative thinking and confidence. Her approach is structured enough to build real artistic skills, while leaving plenty of room for children to make their own creative choices and develop their individual style. She has a particular fondness for the French Masters, while continuing to draw inspiration from artists from around the world.
Michele holds a Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art from the University of Mary Washington and a Master of Arts in Art Education from The Art of Education University. Landing her dream teaching position in Paris brought together her love of art, teaching, and working with children—and ultimately led to Paris Palette.
Today, Michele teaches live online art clubs throughout the school year, as well as three in-person Holiday Art Camps each year in her home village of Mareil-sur-Mauldre, France—taught in Franglais! She is also expanding Paris Palette with two-hour pop-up art events, where children can enjoy hands-on creative experiences with all materials provided.
Whether online or in person, Michele's goal remains the same: to inspire children to explore, experiment, and discover the confidence and joy that come from making art.
A few of the art materials I use and recommend for Paris Palette artists. Over the years, I've tried many different art materials with my students. Here are a few of my favorites—the supplies I return to again and again in my own teaching. I've chosen materials that are enjoyable to use, accessible for young artists, and easy to find in France.
One of my favorite oil pastels for young artists! Their chunky size is easy for little hands to hold—about the same thickness as a Crayola crayon. They glide smoothly across the paper and blend beautifully with other colors, making them perfect for experimenting with color, layering, and texture.
My go-to paper for Paris Palette classes! This sturdy 200 g/m² paper is thick enough for watercolor and other wet techniques without being difficult for children to handle. The A4 size is perfect for our projects, and the 20-sheet pad is easy to keep on hand.
An essential for young artists! Crayola crayons are bright, smooth and easy for children to use. I love them for drawing, adding texture and experimenting with resist techniques. Nothing is more satisfying than opening up a new box in September! They come in boxes of 48 and 64, if you want to go wild!
A Paris Palette essential! I use a black Sharpie to create confident outlines and add definition to drawings. The fine point is especially useful for details and patterns.
Perfect for adding bold details! I love using black and white POSCA markers for outlines, highlights, patterns and finishing touches. They give artwork a wonderfully graphic quality.
A favorite for young painters! I love this watercolor set because the colours are bright, mix beautifully, and the individual paint pans can be rearranged and connected in different ways. It also includes opaque white, making it a versatile set for Paris Palette projects.
A favorite for young artists! These brushes have a soft, comfortable grip that makes them easy for small hands to hold. The four different brush sizes—2, 6, 10, and 12—are perfect for everything from fine details to larger areas of paint.
I love having both a fine and broad tip in each marker, making it easy to switch between detailed drawing and filling larger areas. The set also includes a wonderful range of bright colours, with neon shades that are perfect for adding an unexpected pop of colour to an artwork.
These are a wonderful choice for young artists and offer great value for the price. I love the beautiful range of colours and how smoothly they go onto the paper. The colours layer and mix together beautifully, creating rich new shades without having to press too hard. They're a lovely set for children who are beginning to explore colour mixing and more detailed drawing.
If you prefer a smooth paper—no grain—here is my recommendation: a great brand of paper, and this sketchbook has 50 pages! Bloc Papier Dessin 180 g/m² Spirale, Fabriano.
Calibrated tip pens with permanent, black, water-resistant ink in a variety of sizes—perfect for writing, drawing, and journaling.
Same as the Online Art Club recommendation: Giotto Stilnovo, set of 24 or 36.

When you enroll in Paris Palette Online Art Club, you’re getting much more than a one-hour livestream. Michele has created a complete experience that makes it easy for families to prepare, participate, and continue exploring the artwork after class.

Each lesson is carefully prepared by Michele and designed to be a complete creative experience—combining art, storytelling, skill-building, personal expression, and connection.
The goal is to make online art feel personal, inspiring, and connected, even though we are creating together from different homes and places around the world.
Sketchbook Club is designed for young artists ages 11–14 (Grades 6–8) who enjoy drawing and are ready for a little more independence and creative freedom.
While Online Art Club is centered around creating a finished artwork each week through a guided, step-by-step lesson, Sketchbook Club is more open-ended. Students follow the same artist inspiration as Online Art Club, but instead of creating the same finished project, they use the artist’s work and ideas as a starting point for developing their own drawings.
For example, we might explore the bold colors of Alma Thomas, the expressive portraits of Frida Kahlo, or the imaginative creatures of Tarsila do Amaral. Michele introduces the artist, shares examples, and demonstrates helpful techniques, while students are encouraged to interpret the inspiration in their own way.
Same artist inspiration. New challenge. Sketchbook Club follows the same artists and themes as Online Art Club, but the projects are adapted for older students and give them more opportunity to experiment, make creative decisions, and develop their own artistic style.
As students fill their sketchbooks, they explore line, color, texture, pattern, shading, composition, and more. There isn’t one “right” way to complete a project—each sketchbook becomes a personal record of the artist’s ideas, imagination, and growing skills.
In a nutshell:
Online Art Club: Guided projects, step-by-step instruction, and a finished artwork every week.
Sketchbook Club: The same artist inspiration, with more open-ended drawing, experimentation, and creative choice.
Sketchbook Club is a wonderful next step for children who have enjoyed Online Art Club and are ready to take more creative ownership of their artwork. It is also open to new students who simply love to draw and want a relaxed, encouraging place to develop their skills.
Bring your sketchbook, your curiosity, and your imagination—and discover where your creativity can take you, one page at a time.
We would love to see what your child creates! At the end of each class, please take a quick photo of your child holding their finished artwork and send it to Michele.
These photos are an important part of the Paris Palette experience. They allow Michele to see the finished work clearly, celebrate each young artist’s accomplishment, and make sure that the projects are working well for the children. Seeing the artwork from week to week also helps Michele understand what is engaging, appropriately challenging, and inspiring for different ages and abilities—and helps shape future lessons.
It also gives our young artists a moment to be proud of what they have accomplished. Seeing their artwork celebrated helps build confidence and reinforces the idea that their creative ideas and efforts matter.
A quick, simple photo is perfect—it doesn’t need to be posed or professional! A photo of your child holding their artwork at the end of class is all we need. Please make sure the artwork is visible and, if possible, well lit.
With your permission, photos may also be used on the Paris Palette website, Instagram, or other promotional materials to celebrate our young artists and give families a glimpse into what happens in Online Art Club. If you prefer not to have your child’s photo shared publicly, you can simply let Michele know. You are also welcome to send a photo of the artwork without your child in it.

Each livestream class is taught personally by Michele and is recorded so families can revisit the lesson afterwards.

Every Paris Palette lesson is thoughtfully developed and prepared in Michele’s home studio. Each project involves creating multiple samples, experimenting with materials and techniques, researching artists, and developing meaningful stories and connections to the artwork. The preparation and creative planning behind each one-hour lesson takes several hours.
Whenever possible, Michele also makes a connection to a museum, artwork, artist, or special place in Paris—our home city. These connections help children see that art is not simply something they make during an online class; it is something they can discover and experience in the world around them. Our hope is that these early connections to art and culture will stay with them, giving them lasting memories and meaning wherever life may take them.
Online doesn’t mean less preparation or less teaching—it simply means we create together from wherever we are.
Yes! If space is still available, children are welcome to join a session after it has begun.
Late enrollment is prorated, so you only pay for the remaining livestream classes in the session. Your child will also receive access to the recordings for the classes they have missed, allowing them to catch up and feel part of the group.
Late enrollment is subject to availability, as Paris Palette keeps classes intentionally small so that Michele can give each child personal attention.
If you are interested in joining a session that has already started, simply contact Michele to check availability and receive the adjusted registration fee.
Paris Palette Online Art Club classes are intentionally kept small, with a maximum of 12 children.
Keeping the group size limited allows Michele to maintain the quality and personal nature of the program. Even though we meet online, Michele gets to know each student, sees their work, offers individual encouragement and guidance, and creates a genuine connection with every child.
Small groups mean more personal attention, more interaction, and a more meaningful art experience for every student. This is an important part of what makes Paris Palette different.
We understand that children occasionally have other commitments, are traveling, or simply need to miss a class. Please let Michele know in advance whenever possible—it is always helpful to know when your child will be absent.
Please note that advance notice does not make a class refundable or deduct the cost from your session fee. Paris Palette tuition is based on enrollment in the session, rather than attendance at individual classes. Each child’s place is reserved for the full session, and the cost of the program includes Michele’s preparation, teaching, materials planning, and access to the class recording.
If your child misses a livestream class, the recorded lesson will be shared with your family so they can watch it and complete the project at their own pace.
We know that life happens, and we want families to feel comfortable letting us know when a child will be away. At the same time, keeping tuition based on enrollment allows Paris Palette to maintain small classes, plan carefully, and provide consistent, high-quality lessons throughout the year.

Pop-Up Art Workshops are flexible, one-time art adventures for children ages 6–13—perfect for families who want a creative experience without committing to a weekly class.
Workshops are held in person in Mareil-sur-Mauldre (Yvelines), on Saturdays from 13h–15h. Each two-hour workshop explores a different creative theme and technique, from painting and collage to mixed media, drawing, and sculpture.
Everything is included: Michele provides all art materials and guides children throughout the workshop. Each child leaves with a finished artwork to take home and be proud of.
Pop-Ups are a great way to try Paris Palette, explore something new, or simply enjoy an afternoon of creativity—no weekly commitment, no strings attached!

Paris Palette Art Camps
Paris Palette Art Camps are offered three times a year for children ages 6½–14 (Grades 1–8). Each camp is built around an inspiring artistic theme and invites young artists to explore it through painting, drawing, sculpture, textiles, collage, and other hands-on creative projects.
Our camps are designed to be creative, relaxed, and full of artistic energy. Children have the freedom to experiment, make choices, try new materials, and develop their own ideas while being guided by Michele throughout the week. Every camp offers a mix of two- and three-dimensional projects, giving children the opportunity to create artwork they can be proud of—and take home.
Our Summer Impressions camp was inspired by the colors, light, water, and atmosphere of summer. Young artists created large bridge paintings over water, then brought their scenes to life with watercolor swans, turtles, and ducks and delicate water lilies made from tissue paper. They experimented with clay to create their own water lilies and had a wonderful time constructing 3-D horses from cardboard and papier-mâché.
And then there was the camp T-shirt! Every child received a Paris Palette T-shirt to personalize through tie-dye, textile markers, drawings, messages, and signatures—creating a special keepsake of their week together.
The week ends with one of our favorite traditions: a celebratory art show. Families are invited to come and admire the children’s artwork, take photos, share a drink and a blueberry muffin, and celebrate everything the young artists accomplished during their week of creativity and discovery.
A Creative Week in Mareil-sur-Mauldre
Camps take place in Mareil-sur-Mauldre (Yvelines) in a spacious room behind the town hall, with access to a secure walled garden surrounded by large trees. The setting provides a welcoming environment where children can create, explore, and enjoy a break from the usual pace of the school year.
2026–27 Camp Dates
Each camp is a week-long art adventure, filled with creative energy, experimentation, friendship, and plenty of opportunities to discover what young artists can do when they are given the time and space to create.
